STEELMAN: Product Description

This module would link with the Order Entry and Inquiry Module to develop an integrated and precise identification of the product for each order, and to link the description using external standards to production instructions through the company's internal standard codes. This module facilitates the calculation of the pricing for all orders and links the orders to the process routing through the product description.

Product Descriptions also allows for the input of special products with unique characteristics such as, where multiple standards with each standard covering different characteristics of the product are required, or where a specific chemistry of steel is required and this chemistry is specified element by element by the customer. These special product orders would be sent for consideration by Metallurgy and Production Planning.

Product Descriptions: SPECIAL FEATURES

• The customer may define their order by specifying one or more:
  • metallurgical standards
  • specific metallurgical compositions
  • physical attributes standards
  • dimension tolerance standards
  • acceptance testing standards
• The system verifies that the customer specified standard matches to the company's internal standard, through a lookup table which matches internal and external standards.
• If no matches are found, the system will suspend the order entry processing and forward the inquiry to Metallurgy for review and resolution.
• If all the conditions are satisfied, the system will identify the internal standard with the tightest specifications and will enter this internal standard into the product description for the order.
• As new, special products are added to the company's internal standards, routings and process instructions are prepared for them. The order would then have a description and repeat orders could then be automatically confirmed by the system.
